RESEARCH

I was tasked with a large portion of the user research for this project and much of that involved analyzing the results from our user survey to find trends in what information users are looking for. From there, I looked at competitor sites for best practices, helped create the personas, and worked on the initial wireframing for the new website.

PERSONAS

The survey outlined a few main groups of people who would be using the site. These groups were defined by the information they were looking for, their job title, their goals for using the site, and more. Understanding how these different kinds of users would use the site gave us an advantage in making sure the new flow of the site would work for all of them. Below is the Persona Profile Summary for the Architect role.

WIREFRAMING AND DESIGN

When looking for best practices on competitor websites, I focused on the way they set up their navigation, information hierarchy, and overall organization with regard to the results of the survey. I also looked for pain points that could be improved on to make the new High Concrete site better than the best. The wireframes were a combination of these findings, starting off with the industry standard and then going on to add fixes to the located pain points and enhancements from the persona insights.

REFLECTION

This project was the biggest one of my internship and it taught me a lot about how user experience research plays into the design process. Many of the things I was in charge of during this project were things that I had talked about in my classes at the Milwaukee School of Engineering but had only done isolated from the rest of the project. Being able to put that theory into practice was great.
